MLB All-Star Game injury replacements: Roster news, updates with Mike Trout, Aaron Judge & more out

You can almost make an All-Star team of players not on the All-Star team.

The injury bug has bitten major league stars hard entering the All-Star break. Some of the game's preeminent stars, including Aaron Judge and Mike Trout, won't make the trip to Seattle to represent their fan bases. 

But, as it goes, when a door closes, a window opens, and some players are heading to an All-Star game for the first time to replace some All-Star stalwarts. None more deserving than first-time All-Star Wander Franco.

The Rays shortstop and wunderkind is making his first All-Star appearance amidst a breakout season. His 4.3 bWAR is third in the majors behind Shohei Ohtani and Ronald Acuna, and he's already set a career high in home runs with 11.

"El Patron" highlights the group of injury replacements stepping in for stars who won't be able to play in Seattle due to injury. 

MLB All-Star Game 2023 injury replacements

As the All-Star break begins, 13 players will be left off the roster as they deal with injuries or take a rest. The full list, plus the injuries where applicable.

AAaron Judge is currently dealing with a toe injury that may require surgery. His return date is TBD.

BClayton Kershaw was placed on the injured list with left shoulder soreness. 

CMike Trout fractured the hamate bone in his left wrist and could miss up to two months while rehabbing. 

DYordan Alvarez is dealing with a right oblique injury, which he suffered in early June. He won't be ready in time for the All-Star game.

EShane McClanahan was placed on the IL with mid-back tightness in early July. He is a Cy Young front-runner.

FEmmanuel Clase is skipping the All-Star Game for personal reasons.

GFramber Valdez will not pitch in the All-Star Game after throwing six innings in a start on Saturday. Houston manager Dusty Baker said he didn't want Valdez working on short rest.

HDansby Swanson announced he was opting out of the All-Star Game because of a heel contusion that eventually landed him on the injured list.

ISpencer Strider will not pitch in the All-Star Game after starting on Saturday, Braves manager Brian Snitker told reportrers.

JBryce Elder will not pitch in the All-Star Game after starting on Sunday, Braves manager Brian Snitker told reporters.

KMarcus Stroman is skipping the All-Star Game to rest and prepare for the second half of the season. 

LDevin Williams will not pitch in the All-Star Game because of a heavy recent workload.

MKevin Gausman is skipping the All-Star Game to spend time with his family and rest after throwing 115 2/3 innings in the first half.
